The facelifted Tata Punch EV has quickly become one of the most popular electric SUVs in its segment. With its rugged design, practical cabin, modern features and an impressive claimed driving range, it attracts buyers looking for an affordable electric vehicle. Tata currently offers the Punch EV in five variants: Smart, Smart Plus, Adventure, Empowered and Empowered Plus S.

Among these, the Smart Plus and Adventure variants are two of the most talked-about options. While the Smart Plus provides a good set of essential features at a relatively lower price, the Adventure variant sits in the middle of the lineup and promises a more complete ownership experience. This raises an important question: should you save money and go for the Smart Plus, or stretch your budget for the Adventure variant?

The Adventure variant costs around Rs 70,000 to Rs 1.30 lakh more than the Smart Plus, depending on whether you compare it with the 30 kWh or the 40 kWh version. Another important detail is that the Adventure variant is available only with the larger 40 kWh battery pack, while the Smart Plus offers both battery options.

In terms of design, both variants look quite similar. The facelifted Punch EV gets updated styling with a cleaner grille, redesigned bumpers and halogen projector headlamps with LED DRLs.

Both variants also feature ORVM-mounted turn indicators, which are available from the base variant itself. However, the Adventure variant looks slightly more premium thanks to 16-inch steel wheels with stylised covers.

The Smart Plus variant gets 16-inch wheels only with the 40 kWh version, while the 30 kWh version comes with smaller 15-inch wheels.

At the rear, both variants include a shark-fin antenna, adding a modern touch to the design. Premium elements such as alloy wheels, connected LED tail lamps, roof rails and dual-tone paint options are reserved for higher variants like the Empowered and Empowered Plus S.

Inside the cabin, both variants share the same dashboard layout and interior design. The Punch EV gets Tata’s new two-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated logo, fabric upholstery and a clean, functional cabin theme.

Both variants also come with a semi-digital instrument cluster featuring a 4-inch TFT display that shows essential driving information.

Since both trims share similar materials and seat upholstery, the overall cabin experience remains almost identical. Premium touches such as leatherette upholstery, a larger 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a front armrest are available only with higher variants in the lineup.

The Smart Plus variant already offers a solid list of features. These include an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 4-speaker sound system, steering-mounted audio controls, cruise control, paddle shifters, central locking and front Type-C charging ports.

The Adventure variant builds on this feature list by adding electric ORVM adjustment, keyless entry and push-button start/stop, which improve convenience during daily driving.

Both variants also come with automatic climate control, a height-adjustable driver seat, rear power windows with toggle switches, multiple USB charging ports and connected car technology.

Tata Punch EV Smart Plus vs Adventure: Safety

Safety is one of the strong points of the Punch EV lineup. Both the Smart Plus and Adventure variants come with a good set of safety features including six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), hill-hold assist, high-beam assist, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), ISOFIX child seat anchorages and rear parking sensors.

The Adventure variant further adds a rear parking camera and hill-descent control, which can be helpful when driving on steep slopes or rough terrain.

However, both variants miss out on features such as a 360-degree camera, blind view monitor, rain-sensing wipers and rear wiper with defogger.

Tata Punch EV Smart Plus vs Adventure: Powertrain

The Smart Plus variant offers two battery pack choices – 30 kWh and 40 kWh, while the Adventure variant is available only with the larger 40 kWh battery pack.

The 30 kWh battery pack offers a claimed driving range of around 365–375 km and produces 88 PS of power and 154 Nm of torque. The larger 40 kWh battery pack delivers a higher claimed range of 468 km along with 129 PS of power and the same 154 Nm torque, offering better performance and quicker acceleration.

Which Variant Offers Better Value?

If you want to keep your budget under control while still getting a well-equipped electric SUV, the Smart Plus variant already offers most of the essential features. It includes a touchscreen infotainment system, smartphone connectivity, cruise control and paddle shifters, making it a practical choice under Rs 11 lakh.

However, the Adventure variant feels more complete for everyday driving. Features such as keyless entry, push-button start/stop, electric ORVM adjustment and hill-descent control improve overall convenience and usability.

From a pure value-for-money perspective, the Smart Plus variant stands out as the smarter pick. But if you are willing to spend a little extra for added convenience and a slightly better ownership experience, the Adventure variant could be worth the upgrade.
