After facing heavy traffic congestion at the Bijwasan toll plaza on Sunday, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has taken proactive steps to ease the issue. On Monday, NHAI announced special camps across residential sectors in Gurugram to help commuters get and activate their monthly toll passes for the Dwarka Expressway. This initiative aims to make the process faster and smoother for local vehicle owners who frequently use the route.

To address delays, NHAI has deployed additional staff and established new booths at the Bijwasan toll plaza. Officials confirmed that around 1,500 monthly passes were issued on Monday alone, and the number is expected to grow rapidly. The highway authority has also increased the number of traffic marshals and support staff to manage smoother vehicle movement.
Three lanes on both sides of the Bijwasan toll plaza have been temporarily made toll-free for local commuters for three days, allowing vehicle owners to get their passes activated without extra waiting time.
The NHAI’s special camps will help issue and activate monthly passes for local residents using the Dwarka Expressway. A monthly pass priced at ₹340 allows unlimited trips on the expressway for one month. Once activated, users can conveniently recharge it online, avoiding repeated visits to the toll plaza.
Officials also confirmed coordination with the Gurugram district administration to identify suitable spots in nearby residential sectors for setting up these camps. The camps are planned to run for the next four to five days across multiple locations.
According to Prakhar Sahai, an office bearer of the Dwarka Expressway Gurugram Development Association, the first camp will be held at Imperial Garden Society in Sector 102. The association will collaborate with NHAI to manage these camps, forming four to five teams for smooth organization. Vehicle owners will likely only need their car’s Registration Certificate (RC) to apply for a monthly pass.
| Criteria | Details |
|---|---|
| Eligible Residents | People living within 20 km of Bijwasan or Kherki Daula toll plazas |
| Pass Validity | 1 Month |
| Pass Cost | ₹340 (unlimited trips) |
| Activation Requirement | Car Registration Certificate (RC) |
| Recharge Option | Online Recharge Available |
The initiative came after severe congestion was reported on Sunday morning when toll operations began. Technical glitches, including malfunctioning RFID readers, disrupted traffic flow and prevented many commuters from activating their passes. As a result, several residents had to return without completing the process.
To prevent such issues, NHAI has now established a permanent camp with five dedicated booths at the Bijwasan toll plaza, ensuring faster processing and assistance for local commuters.
Residents continued to face long delays on Monday as well, with some commuters waiting over an hour to get their monthly passes due to incomplete documentation. However, NHAI officials assured that traffic is expected to normalize within the next 7 - 10 days.
Since toll collection began, traffic volume on the Dwarka Expressway has dropped slightly, with several commuters switching to alternative routes like the Delhi - Gurgaon Expressway, Bijwasan Road, and Upper Dwarka Expressway. Traffic has also increased at the Sirhaul border, but officials expect vehicle flow to stabilize once e-passes are fully distributed.
| Key Point | Details |
|---|---|
| Camp Duration | Next 4–5 days across Gurugram sectors |
| First Camp Location | Imperial Garden, Sector 102 |
| Temporary Toll-Free Lanes | 3 lanes on both sides of Bijwasan toll plaza (3 days) |
| Documents Needed | Registration Certificate (RC) of vehicle |
| Expected Normalization | Within 7 -10 days |
NHAI is holding these camps to simplify the process of getting and activating monthly toll passes for Dwarka Expressway commuters after heavy congestion at the Bijwasan toll plaza.
The monthly pass costs ₹340 and allows unlimited trips for one month on the Dwarka Expressway.
Residents living within 20 kilometers of either the Bijwasan or Kherki Daula toll plazas are eligible to apply for the monthly pass.
The first camp will be organized at Imperial Garden Society, Sector 102, Gurugram, with multiple teams managing the setup in collaboration with NHAI.
Vehicle owners are required to carry the Registration Certificate (RC) of their car to obtain the monthly pass.
NHAI has deployed additional staff, increased the number of booths, and made three lanes toll-free temporarily to ensure smoother movement of vehicles.
According to officials, traffic is expected to normalize within 7–10 days as commuters get their e-passes activated and operations stabilize.
The NHAI’s decision to hold special camps across Gurugram sectors is a major relief for local commuters struggling with toll pass delays and traffic congestion. With affordable passes, online recharges, and organized camp setups, the process is becoming more convenient and accessible for everyone. Once fully operational, these efforts are expected to ensure seamless travel on the Dwarka Expressway with reduced congestion and improved traffic management.
