Dussehra 2026 Car Sales: How Many Cars Were Delivered in Ahmedabad, Gujarat and India?

Dussehra 2026 Car Sales: How Many Cars Were Delivered in Ahmedabad, Gujarat and India?

Dussehra is one of the busiest days of the year at car showrooms in Gujarat. On 20 October 2026, families across Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot queued up to take delivery of new cars and two-wheelers on Vijayadashami, a day many people consider auspicious for starting something new.

So how many cars were actually delivered? Early estimates from Gujarat's automobile dealers put the figure at about 2,500 cars in Ahmedabad and around 11,000 cars across Gujarat on Dussehra day alone, along with roughly 50,000 two-wheelers. At the national level, data from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) shows that 1,72,087 passenger vehicles were retailed in India during the first nine days of Navratri 2026.

This report brings together the Dussehra 2026 car sales numbers for Ahmedabad, Gujarat and India, compares them with Dussehra 2025, and explains why national car sales fell even though Gujarat's showrooms stayed busy. All Dussehra-day figures are early estimates from dealers and news reports. Official RTO registration data and FADA's final numbers may differ slightly when they are released.

If you took delivery of a new car this Dussehra, the last section covers the car accessories for new car owners worth adding in the first week.

Dussehra 2026 Car Sales at a Glance

Here are the key numbers from Dussehra 2026 and the Navratri period before it. Dussehra-day figures cover deliveries on 20 October 2026. The India figure covers the first nine days of Navratri, from 11 to 19 October 2026.

Region Cars Two-wheelers Period Source
Ahmedabad (city) About 2,500 6,000–6,500 Dussehra day Dealer estimates, ETV Bharat
Gujarat About 11,000 About 50,000 Dussehra day Dealer estimates, ETV Bharat
Gujarat (second estimate) 7,000–8,500 Not given Dussehra day Sandesh
India 1,72,087 Up 5.8% Navratri, 11–19 Oct FADA retail data

Creckk Facts: Dussehra-day numbers are estimates that dealers share on the day itself. Registrations on the government's Vahan portal are updated over the next few days, and uploads from rural areas often arrive late, so the final official figures can be slightly different.

1. Why Dussehra Is a Big Day for Car Deliveries in India

Vijayadashami marks the victory of good over evil, and for many Indian families it is one of the most auspicious days of the year to bring home something new. Gold, property and vehicles are all popular Dussehra purchases. In Gujarat, the day also closes nine nights of Navratri garba, so the festive mood is already at its peak when showrooms open their doors.

Most Dussehra deliveries are planned weeks in advance. Buyers book their car during Navratri or even earlier, choose a muhurat time with their family, and ask the dealer to hand over the keys at that exact moment. Showrooms in Ahmedabad were crowded from the morning of 20 October, and many new vehicles were given a traditional puja before they left the showroom.

Festive offers add to the rush. Carmakers and dealers run discounts, exchange bonuses and finance schemes through Navratri, Dussehra, Dhanteras and Diwali. In 2026, Dussehra falls on 20 October and Diwali on 8 November, so festive deliveries are spread across both months.

Creckk Tip: If you are booking a car for a muhurat date, confirm the delivery slot and the time of the pre-delivery inspection (PDI) in writing. Popular slots fill first, and a rushed handover is when small defects get missed. Our festive season car delivery checklist lists what to inspect before you sign.

2. Ahmedabad Dussehra 2026: How Many Cars Were Delivered?

Ahmedabad led Gujarat in Dussehra car deliveries this year. According to dealer estimates reported by ETV Bharat, about 2,500 cars and 6,000 to 6,500 two-wheelers were sold in Ahmedabad city on Dussehra. Sandesh, in a separate report, put the city's car deliveries at between 2,200 and more than 2,500, the highest of any city in the state.

Both reports land in the same range, which makes Ahmedabad the most consistent number in this year's data. For comparison, FADA data reported by Gujarat Samachar showed 2,400 cars and 6,000 two-wheelers delivered in Ahmedabad district on Dussehra 2025. That points to a small increase of around 4% for cars this year, although the 2025 figure covers the district and the 2026 figure covers the city, so the two are not an exact like-for-like comparison.

Compact SUVs drew the longest queues. Sandesh reported heavy demand for the Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Creta and Mahindra XUV 3XO across Gujarat's showrooms.

Creckk Facts: By both estimates, Ahmedabad accounted for roughly a quarter to a third of all cars delivered in Gujarat on Dussehra 2026.

3. Gujarat Dussehra Car Sales 2026: City-wise Numbers

Across Gujarat, Dussehra vehicle sales were strong for both cars and two-wheelers. Pranav Shah, former chairman of FADA Gujarat, estimated that about 11,000 cars and 50,000 two-wheelers were sold statewide on Dussehra, according to ETV Bharat. He put the growth over last year's Vijayadashami at about 10% for two-wheelers and 5% to 7% for cars.

Sandesh gave a more conservative count. It estimated total sales of 35,000 to 40,000 vehicles across two-wheelers, cars and commercial vehicles, with cars making up 15% to 20% of the total. That works out to about 7,000 to 8,500 cars. Its city-wise estimates were:

City Estimated cars delivered on Dussehra 2026
Ahmedabad 2,200 to 2,500+
Surat 1,500 to 1,800
Vadodara 1,000 to 1,200
Rajkot 1,000 to 1,200

The same report gives a useful picture of what Gujarat bought. SUVs and crossovers made up more than 55% of the cars sold on Dussehra, and electric cars accounted for about 6% to 8%.

Why do the two statewide estimates differ? Early counts come from different dealer networks and are compiled within hours of the festival. Until RTO and FADA publish final figures, it is best to read Gujarat's Dussehra car sales as a range of roughly 7,000 to 11,000. We use 11,000 as the headline figure because it comes from a named FADA Gujarat source and is consistent with last year's FADA count of 10,000.

4. Dussehra 2025 vs 2026: Did Car Sales Grow in Gujarat?

Dussehra fell on 2 October in 2025 and on 20 October in 2026. Comparing the two days shows modest growth in Gujarat, with two-wheelers growing faster than cars.

Metric Dussehra 2025 Dussehra 2026 Change
Ahmedabad cars 2,400 About 2,500 +4%
Gujarat cars 10,000 About 11,000 +10%
Ahmedabad two-wheelers 6,000 6,000–6,500 0% to +8%
Gujarat two-wheelers 44,000 About 50,000 +14%

Note: 2025 figures are FADA data reported by Gujarat Samachar (Ahmedabad district). 2026 figures are dealer estimates reported by ETV Bharat (Ahmedabad city). Dealers themselves estimate car growth at 5% to 7%, slightly lower than the 10% implied by the two headline numbers.

Any growth is notable, because Dussehra 2025 was already an unusually strong year. The GST rate cut that took effect on 22 September 2025 lowered prices of small cars and two-wheelers just as Navratri began. Gujarat sold vehicles worth about ₹3,300 crore over the 2025 Navratri-Dussehra period, and its automobile sales were 15% higher than in the previous festive season, according to FADA data reported by Gujarat Samachar.

Creckk Facts: Over the full 2025 Navratri-to-Dussehra window, Gujarat saw 22,000 to 24,000 cars and 1.05 to 1.10 lakh two-wheelers booked and delivered.

5. India Navratri 2026 Car Sales: Why Passenger Vehicle Sales Fell 14%

The national picture looks different. FADA retail data for the first nine days of Navratri 2026 (11 to 19 October) shows that total vehicle sales rose about 2% to 10.32 lakh units compared with the first nine days of Navratri 2025 (22 to 30 September). Passenger vehicle sales, however, fell from 1,99,320 to 1,72,087, a drop of about 14%.

Segment Navratri 2026 (11–19 Oct) Change vs 2025
All vehicles 10.32 lakh +2.0%
Two-wheelers About 7.6 lakh +5.8%
Passenger vehicles (cars) 1,72,087 −13.7%
Three-wheelers 43,057 −1.7%
Commercial vehicles 34,120 +14.2%
Tractors 20,912 +8.9%
Construction equipment 2,185 +10.9%

The main reason is the comparison base. In 2025, many buyers postponed purchases after the GST changes were announced in August and then rushed to showrooms when the lower rates took effect on 22 September, which was also the first day of Navratri. That made last year's Navratri unusually strong. FADA president Sai Giridhar said a slight decline was expected for this reason, and that this year's sales are roughly level with last year once that effect is taken into account.

Two more points are worth keeping in mind. First, these figures cover the nine days before Dussehra, so they do not include Dussehra day itself; FADA's updated data up to 20 October is expected within a couple of days. Second, the national average hides big regional differences. In Mumbai, RTO data showed 8,798 new vehicle registrations across the city's four RTOs during Dussehra week (13 to 20 October), about 70% of them two-wheelers, and the RTO-wise figures add up to roughly 2,240 cars. In Nagpur, dealers expected to deliver more than 1,200 four-wheelers on Dussehra, with car demand steady compared with last year.

Creckk Tip: If you are planning to buy before Diwali, ask more than one dealer about stock and waiting time for your preferred variant and colour, and compare festive offers in writing before you book.

6. What Dussehra 2026 Sales Tell Us About Car Buyers

Looking across Ahmedabad, Gujarat and India, a few clear trends stand out from this year's festive season car sales:

  • SUVs dominate: More than half of the cars sold in Gujarat on Dussehra were SUVs or crossovers, led by compact SUVs such as the Nexon, Brezza, Creta and XUV 3XO.
  • EVs are growing, but from a small base: Electric cars made up about 6% to 8% of Gujarat's Dussehra car sales.
  • Two-wheelers are outpacing cars: Two-wheeler sales grew faster than car sales in Gujarat and across India this Navratri.
  • Buyers plan ahead: Many customers booked their cars weeks or months before Dussehra so they could take delivery at an auspicious time.
  • The season is not over: Dhanteras and Diwali on 8 November are the next big delivery dates, and final festive-season numbers will only be clear after that.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

About 2,500 cars were delivered in Ahmedabad city on Dussehra, 20 October 2026, according to dealer estimates reported by ETV Bharat. Sandesh put the figure at 2,200 to more than 2,500. The city also saw an estimated 6,000 to 6,500 two-wheeler deliveries.

2. How many cars were sold in Gujarat on Dussehra 2026?

Former FADA Gujarat chairman Pranav Shah estimated about 11,000 cars and 50,000 two-wheelers sold across Gujarat on Dussehra. A separate estimate by Sandesh put car sales at 7,000 to 8,500. Official RTO and FADA figures are expected later.

3. Did car sales grow compared with Dussehra 2025?

Yes, modestly. Gujarat delivered about 10,000 cars on Dussehra 2025 according to FADA data, compared with about 11,000 estimated for 2026. Dealers estimate growth of 5% to 7% for cars and about 10% for two-wheelers.

4. How many cars were sold in India during Navratri 2026?

FADA retail data shows 1,72,087 passenger vehicles sold in India during the first nine days of Navratri 2026 (11 to 19 October), compared with 1,99,320 in the same period of 2025. Total vehicle sales across all segments rose about 2% to 10.32 lakh units.

5. Why did car sales fall in India this Navratri?

Mainly because Navratri 2025 was unusually strong. The GST rate cut took effect on 22 September 2025, the first day of Navratri, and many buyers who had delayed purchases bought cars that week. FADA says this year's sales are roughly level with last year after accounting for that effect.

6. Which cars were most popular on Dussehra 2026 in Gujarat?

Compact SUVs such as the Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Creta and Mahindra XUV 3XO saw the longest queues. SUVs and crossovers made up more than 55% of cars sold in Gujarat on Dussehra, and electric cars about 6% to 8%.

7. Which accessories should I buy after taking delivery of a new car?

Start with floor mats, a phone holder, a dash cam, a tyre inflator, door edge guards and sunshades. Choose products made for your car's model and variant, and avoid accessories that block airbags, sensors or your view of the road.

Conclusion

Dussehra 2026 kept Gujarat's showrooms busy. About 2,500 cars were delivered in Ahmedabad and around 11,000 across the state, slightly ahead of Dussehra 2025, while two-wheeler sales grew faster still. SUVs were the clear favourite, and electric cars continued to build a small but growing share.

Nationally, car sales during Navratri fell about 14% compared with last year, but that is largely because 2025 was boosted by the GST rate cut. With Dhanteras and Diwali still ahead, the full picture of the 2026 festive season will become clearer in November, once FADA and RTO publish their final numbers.
